A really great Ted talk on how machine learning algorithms are seemingly moving towards AI.  I know it’s a loaded term, but once you watch what can be done in mere minutes with mounds of data, it goes well beyond “big data” and “analytics” as we currently use the terms

Docker vs. Rocket January 5, 2015

Docker is one of the most interesting capabilities out there. I see it as a way to be hypervisor agnostic. This is important since it enables “Hybrid IT” in a real-world way. You also need a network fabric across various providers of course, but Docker gives you the upper layers of the solution.

There’s a lot of discussion on how CoreOS has a viable competitor and that the Docker deployment model is getting to complex. Combined with some recent security flaws in the Docker platform you have to be cautious. I still see this though as the right way to go.

The CEO of Joyent has a good blog post..

I now have my Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) model.. I bought it refurb.. and it’s great.

Here at IBM we use Lotus Notes v9 and one of the constant challenges is where Notes will store temporary files.  On the Mac it is just as convoluted as on Windows, but I found this blog post which helped me find a recent file (thought I had lost it.).  Worth bookmarking..

I was looking through an old tackle box I used to store various electronic parts and such while in engineering school.  One of the things I found was a flow chart ruler given to me in the early 80’s by a retired nuclear engineer.  I was quite young, and didn’t even consider I would ever work at IBM.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.
